One KRC account gives you access to the KRC services: this portal, Nextcloud, the VPN and (later) the databases. You sign in to all of them on the same page, accounts.kalahariresearch.org.
Getting an account
- Open the account request form.
- Choose a username and a password, and tick what you need (Nextcloud, the databases and which ones, the VPN). Every account can use this portal.
- KRC checks the request and sends you an email when your account is ready. Until then you cannot sign in.
Your first sign-in
- Go to accounts.kalahariresearch.org and sign in with your username (or your email address) and password.
- You are asked to set up a second login step. Choose one:
- Passkey (easiest): your phone, or your laptop's fingerprint or face login.
- Authenticator app: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or Aegis; scan the QR code shown.
- Keep the recovery codes if you are offered them, somewhere safe and not on the same phone.
From then on you sign in with your password plus that second step.
Every day
- When a KRC service (this portal, Nextcloud, the VPN) asks you to sign in, it sends you to accounts.kalahariresearch.org. Sign in there and you are sent back.
- Forgot your password? Use "Forgot password" on the sign-in page.
- New phone, or lost your second step? Email Tim Vink (reservemanager@kalahariresearch.org); he resets it so you can set up a new one.
- Got access to something new? Sign out and in again before it shows.
Keep it safe
- Only type your KRC password on accounts.kalahariresearch.org (check the address bar). KRC never asks for it by email.
- Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
