Welcome! This page is for everyone coming to work at the Kalahari Research Centre (KRC): researchers, students, assistants and volunteers.
Before you come
- Your KRC account. One login for all KRC services. Request it at accounts.kalahariresearch.org: choose a username and password and tick what you need. KRC approves it and lets you know; on your first sign-in you set up a second login step (a passkey on your phone or laptop is easiest).
- Accommodation. Email reservations@kalahariresearch.org with your dates and whether you want a room or a self-catering cottage. KRC may change the room or cottage; you hear by email.
- Emergency contact and vaccination record. Fill in the form and email it to reservations@kalahariresearch.org before you arrive.
Getting there
- Own transport: the KRC is at S 26.978583, E 21.8322667 (map), on the Kuruman River Reserve near Van Zylsrus, Northern Cape. From Upington it is about 40 km tar and 180 km dirt road, 3 to 4 hours.
- KRC town trip: about every 2 to 3 weeks a KRC vehicle drives to Upington and back. Ask for a seat before you book your accommodation; once you have an account, the trips are in the operations app.
- Van Zylsrus Hotel shuttle: a private service, arranged with the hotel (info@vanzylsrushotel.com, office +27 53 781 0201).
